ASF Shetland’s unique “Stay and Make” programme helps graduate makers to develop their skill and expertise, and encourages experimentation, in inspirational surroundings.
We are offering access to the studio, reference library, yarn store and accommodation in return for teaching time and product design plus a charge of £75 per week to cover maintenance of the equipment. This programme is especially useful to graduates or makers wishing to add to their CVs through designing to a brief.
ASF Shetland has four AVL dobby looms, with twenty four shafts on each, a reference library of books and magazines, warping equipment, yarn store, broadband internet, and support and training available at the studio to makers who apply through this programme.
Please download the Makers information plus the guidelines and application form to apply.

If you feel that a residency type programme is not for you, please apply to our “Buy some Time” programme. Makers can hire a loom and equipment, and accommodation for projects or development. A small amount of training is offered on this programme as well.
